Welcome to my 1972 Chevy Monte Carlo web site. This is my first car that I purchased on 10 June, 1979. The Monte Carlo was purchased at Kelley Chevrolet in Greenwood, Indiana for the price of $1,100. I am just the second owner and the car has been through many changes over the years.

When I purchased the Monte it was painted a dark bronze mettalic and sported a 350 small block chevy with a two-barrel carburetor. The transmission was a 350 turbo hydromatic and had a 10 bolt rear end with a .256 gear ratio. The braking system has drums in the rear and disc brakes in the front for extra stopping power. The interior has the SS package which is the bucket seats with a shifter console between the seats. The interior color is a buckskin tan and the dash has a walnut grain inlay that surround the instrument panel. This is how the car was when I bought it.
Now for the changes over the years. In 1984 when the 350 turbo transmission went out it was replaced with a 400 turbo which came out of a 1968 Chevelle. This transmission is still in place. The 350 small block Chevy was replaced with a 396 big block Chevy (Mark IV or generation Mark 4) that came out of a 1969 Chevrolet Impala. The rear end was replaced in 1994 with a 10 bolt out of a 1968 Pontiac Grand Prix and the gear ratio was incresed from .308 to a .355 gear ratio. In 1998 the 396 was replaced with a 454 big block Chevy. When I bought the 454 the owner was putting it in a 1968 Chevelle but thats not the original motor for that car. So I do not know the origin of the 454 big block.
